Lotus Dragon Weapons

The Lotus Dragon Weapons Curriculum includes the staff, spear, broadsword (saber, Dao) and sword (straight sword, Jian), with occasional seminars on other weapons (fan, double rod, sticks). Instruction includes both the more external Kung Fu drills and forms and the internal Taiji drills and forms. Below is the Taiji weapons curriculum.

Taiji-Gung (Staff)

The student should finish learning the Long Form before beginning to practice the staff.

Staff Drills

The student should be proficient with the Stick Drills before learning the Staff Form.

Plum Blossom Form

6) Step left and strike from right.
7) Retreat and conceal
8) Step back and throw down
9) Step up to close

Four Attacks

1) Step Back To Open
2) Advance and Pierce Heart
3) Advance and Pierce Knee
4) Advance and Pierce Shoulder
5) Entanglement
6) Advance and Pierce Throat

Four Defenses:

1) Retreat and Protect Heart
2) Retreat and Save Knee
3) Retreat and Save Shoulder

5) Retreat and Throw Away Opponent’s Staff
6) Step up to close

After completing the Staff Form the student may engage in Staff Fencing. The staffs of the fencers should remain in contact. Points can only be scored when the staffs are touching.
Blows when staffs are not in contact are not legal, except when
shaky stick is executed to fling the opponents staff away and break the connection.

Taiji-Dao (Saber)

The student should complete the review of the Long
Form and be competent in the Preliminary Tui Shou Exercises before
being introduced to the Taiji Saber.
